Coaching Registration, Compliance & certification

Annual Coaching Requirements

 

Please read below the MYL Coach Registration, Compliance & Certification requirements and procedures.  

  1. ALL coaches (anyone who will assist with practice or be on the sideline at games) MUST have a CURRENT YEAR MYL Coaching Badge. Anyone without a current year MYL Coach badge is NOT allowed on the sidelines for games as they are not Insured (putting everyone at risk should there be an incident) and they are not MYL Compliant (including lacking CORI and National Background Check approval).
    1. Each year, MYL will issue badges that are valid for that current season only to all coaches who complete Registration and Compliance.
    2. Coaches who attended an in-person Certification Clinic the previous season, or attend one that year, will receive a MYL Coaching Badge WITH a Certification Sticker (All Registration and Compliance requirements must be completed prior to receiving Badge with Sticker).
    3. All previous years' badges will no longer be valid.  
    4. Coaches who attend an In-Person Certification Clinic will be considered Certified for 2 seasons.  To receive a Coach Badge with Certification Sticker for the 2nd season, the coach MUST complete all registration and compliance requirements.
  2. ALL coaches MUST register as a coach EVERY SEASON – NO cost to coach or town program to register.
    1. If the town program uses Demosphere, they will register as a coach on their towns website.
    2. If the town program uses a different platform than MYL, each coach must register as a coach at www.MassYouthLax.org
    3. Once registration is completed, the coach will receive an email to access teh Compliance Requirements.
      1. If a coach does not see the email, they can simply log into their account on their town site (if using Demosphere), or MassYouthLax.org site (town does not use Demosphere) and they will be prompted from the account main screen to enter Players Health to complete compliance requirements.
  3. EVERY ADULT on the sideline of games MUST be wearing a CURRENT YEAR MYL Coach Badge.
  4. AT LEAST 1 ADULT on the sideline of each CLASSIC game MUST have a CURRENT YEAR MYL Coach Badge WITH a Certification Sticker.
  5. ALL ADULTS on the sideline of each SELECT game MUST have a CURRENT YEAR MYL Coach Badge WITH a Certification Sticker

 

RETURNING COACH WHO ATTENDED CERTIFICATION CLINIC LAST YEAR – Any badge they have from previous season are no longer valid and should be discarded.

  1. Coach MUST register as a coach on their town site or MassYouthLax.org
  2. Coach MUST complete the following compliance requirements EVERY YEAR-
    1. National Background Check (no cost to coach or town program)
    2. Abuse Prevention Online Training Course
  3. Once completed, Coach will be mailed a MYL Coach Badge WITH Certification Sticker
    1. Badges will be mailed out on March 16, or once Section 2 is completed (whichever is later date)

 

RETURNING COACH WHO HAS NEVER ATTENDED A CERTIFICATION CLINIC OR ATTENDED PRIOR TO 2022 – Any badge they have from previous season are no longer valid and should be discarded. 

  1. Coach MUST register as a coach on their town site or MassYouthLax.org
  2. Coach MUST complete the following compliance requirements EVERY YEAR-
    1. National Background Check (no cost to coach or town program)
    2. Abuse Prevention Online Training Course
  3. If Coach wants to become a Certified Coach for the upcoming season, they must register for a Certification Clinic, their current season Coach Badge with Certification Sticker will be given to them at the Clinic IF Section 2 above is complete at time of clinic.
  4. If Coach is NOT going to be Certified (can only be coaching Classic and another coach must be a Certified coach), MYL Coach Badge WITHOUT Certification Sticker Badges will be mailed out on March 16, or once Section 2 is completed (whichever is later date)

NEW COACH 

  1. Coach MUST register as a coach on their town site or MassYouthLax.org
  2. Coach MUST complete the following compliance requirements EVERY YEAR-
    1. National Background Check (no cost to coach or town program)
    2. Abuse Prevention Online Training Course
  3. If Coach wants to become a Certified Coach for the upcoming season, they must register for a Certification Clinic, their current season Coach Badge with Certification Sticker will be given to them at the Clinic IF Section 2 above is complete at time of clinic.
  4. If Coach is NOT going to be Certified (can only be coaching Classic and another coach must be a Certified coach), MYL Coach Badge WITHOUT Certification Sticker Badges will be mailed out on March 16, or once Section 2 is completed (whichever is later date)              

 

MYL COACH CERTIFICATION CLINICS

  1. CLINIC LEVELS
    • INTRO CLINIC
      • For NEW coaches coaching Level 1/2 or 3/4 who have little to no lacrosse knowledge/experience. 
    • INTERMEDIATE CLINIC
      • For NEW coaches coaching Level 1/2 or 3/4 who have previous lacrosse playing/coaching experience.
      • For RETURNING coaches who are coaching Level 1/2 or 3/4.
    • ADVANCED CLINIC
      • For NEW or RETURNING coaches who are coaching L5/6 or L7/8 Classic or Select.   
  2. How Clinics Are Arranged
    • Each Region is encouraged to host clinics that combined offer all 3 levels at least once.
    • Each region is encouraged to host at least 2 clinic dates
    • A clinic can consist of multiple levels
  3. Regions decide on clinic styles for Each Level
    • Advanced Level Options
      • Traditional Lacrosse Clinic
        • 1 Trainer. Examples for the Boys Clinics-Trilogy Coach (Belisle, Boyle, Streibel)
        • All on Xs and Os, they are open to topics of interest
        • Auditorium/Classroom style – Quality Av and comfortable seating needed
      • Cafeteria Style
        • Multiple Trainers
        • Multiple areas needed – gym; classroom with space; auditorium; field; etc.
        • Mix of position specific topics (FO, Goalie, O, D); Coaching Topics (PCA, Planning Your Season, How to coach kids, Injury prevention, nutrition)
    • Intermediate Options
      • 2 Trainers – X’s and O’s heavy. Some Coaching Kids mixed in.
      • 1 Trainer on Xs and Os and 1 PCA Presentation (when hosting a Intro Clinic at same time)
      • 1 Trainer on Xs and Os, 1 Referee/rules, 1 Coaching Kids Trainer
    • Intro Options
      • 1 Trainer – Basics of how to play lacrosse and how to teach lacrosse
      • 1 Trainer and 1 PCA Presenter (when hosting with an Intermediate Clinic)
  4. Once Level and Options are decided, Coach Education Director can tell you what is needed to host the clinic.
    • For all clinics, an auditorium or large classroom with quality A/V capabilities is needed.
    • Other areas, such as gymnasium and/or breakout rooms, may be needed based on the level(s) being offered.
    • All clinics require two 6-foot tables for check-in and badge distribution
    • All clinics require 2-3 volunteers to help with set-up, check-in, badge distribution and clean up.
    • MYL is asking towns willing to host a clinic to cover any expenses associated (rental, custodial, etc.)

MYL Coach Certification Clinic Registration

  • You must be registered as a coach and have completed all compliance requirements at least 24 hours in advance
  • $50 clinic participation fee (due during registration) up to 36 hours in advance
  • $75 clinic participation fee if registering less than 36 hours prior to clinic

 

Hosting a Town/Private MYL Introductory / Intermediate Clinic

  • The same requirements for hosting an Intro/Intermediate Clinic

  • There will be a $500 town fee to host a private clinic

  • Each coach will also be required to pay the $50 to cover materials

    • Coach info and fees will be collected directly from the town (not through online registration)
